How Altor (and You!) Can Help.
Here at Altor Locks, our number one mission is safety and security. These are incredibly challenging times, and, like the rest of the world, we have been closely tracking every development related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Our top priority is the health and wellbeing of our employees and clients, along with the communities where we operate. We know that each decision we make can have a broad impact far beyond our operations. As part of the business and cycling communities, we wanted to share with you the steps we are taking to do our part to help flatten the curve.
Safety & Social Distancing
Late last week our team began working from home, and any employees unable to work from home are on paid leave. I am currently the only person at the office, so any order you place will be shipped by me personally, within two days. We will be closely monitoring all government, WHO, NHS, and CDC recommendations related to the outbreak, and will proactively anticipate and adjust for everyone’s continued safety.
Helping Our Community
But staying home doesn’t mean we can’t still help others on the front lines. Here at Altor we believe in taking care of yourself, and then, once you have your feet under you, looking out for others.
Frankly, I wasn’t sure how a small bike lock company could help the community during this time, but I read today on Twitter about a young doctor whose bicycle was stolen while he was on shift at the hospital, and suddenly I was inspired. I have decided to help—if only in a small way—not only that doctor, but also others who are commuting by bike to take their place on the front lines of this coronavirus epidemic. Here at Altor, we can provide these community heroes with some peace of mind at least when it comes to the security of their transportation. We have set aside 50 APEX locks that we will donate and ship free of charge. If you know someone who needs this kind of help, please ask them to DM us on any of our social media accounts, and we will coordinate from there.
To Inspire & Be Inspired
We would also love to hear what you are doing. We would appreciate the opportunity to be a witness to your acts of kindness and generosity and to be inspired by you. Please email us at info@altorlocks.com or DM us on social media.
If you would like to help others but are unsure how, consider being a part of the Altor Lock Peace-of-Mind Donation. To participate, purchase a lock and, in the notes section, write “donate it to the front lines.” We will make sure to put your name on the donation, get it to the front line, and then let you know whom you were able to help.
We’re in this Together
In the next few months we will be venturing into the unknown. This is a serious global crisis, and no one knows how bad it will get or how long it will last. Please do everything you can to stay healthy, help others in need, and actively prevent and slow the spread of the potentially deadly COVID-19. All that is certain right now is that this pandemic will eventually end, and life will return to normal. Together, making smart choices, we can flatten the curve, support one another, and come out strong on the other side. Please remember that.
Staying Connected (While Socially Distant)
While we all need to keep our distance, we really do want to stay connected, because it is working together that will help us get through these tough times by providing support to those who need it. We would also love to hear from you. Would you like us to continue to share information on social media about bicycling security and what we are up to? What is resonating with you? What do you want to hear about? Do you need a break? How can we support you? Please let us know.
Stay Safe,

Hello, my name is cooper. I have worked for 6 years as an EMT in the level 1 trauma center and Emergency Room at Santa Barbara cottage hospital. Also I am 3/4 through nursing school and plan to apply to be an ER nurse afterward. We as an ER, are committed to battling this covid mess, urging public to stay home and treating those in immediate need, while still taking on traumas, heart attacks and strokes. We are a strong and tight team and are leaning on each other to get through this. I ride my bike to work as I live a mile away and I’m currently sporting an old rusty U lock on my longtime bike with >8,000 miles on it. I heard of this through another EMT friend, Cormac O’Brien, who i see on his e-bike in our community. It would be amazing to receive this gift. I’m loyal and would recommend and support altorlocks for all future bike lock purchases! Hope to hear back soon!
Cheers and stay safe,
Cooper Smith
